Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

CME Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) provide flexible, reliable energy buffering and dispatch for oil & gas, mining, remote water-intake pumping stations, and other off-grid industrial applications.

Based on LiFePO4 (LFP) chemistry, our systems offer 0.5–6.8 MWh per standard container (20HC: 1.5–3.65 MWh; 40HC: 3.4–6.88 MWh), with parallel multi-container arrays scaling to 100+ MWh. Whether replacing diesel gensets for backup, enabling peak shaving and demand management, or providing black-start and frequency regulation, CME BESS delivers fully engineered, deployable solutions.

Core Components

  • Battery Racks (LFP)

Automotive-grade LiFePO4 (LFP) cells, ≥6,000–8,000 cycles at 80% DoD (25°C), 10–15 year calendar life. 0.5C (energy) / 1C (fast-response) C-rate options. Multi-level fusing, DC breakers, leakage detection.

  • Bidirectional PCS (Power Conversion System)

Grid-forming (VF) and grid-following (PQ) modes; four-quadrant operation; black-start capable; response <40 ms. Peak efficiency 97.6% (CEC 97.0%), select models >98.8%. 480/600/690 Vac, 50/60 Hz, 3P3W or 3P4W.

  • BMS (Battery Management System)

Three-tier architecture (slave/master/central). Monitors voltage, current, temperature, SOC, SOH. Cell balancing ±10 mV, thermal-runaway warning, multi-level linked protection. Communication: CANbus, RS485, Modbus.

  • EMS (Energy Management System)

Load forecasting and price-responsive charge/discharge scheduling. Supports solar-storage coordination, peak-valley arbitrage, demand management, seamless on/off-grid switching. Web & mobile interfaces; Modbus / IEC 104 / DNP3 / IEC 61850.

  • Thermal Management

Forced air cooling (standard, -20 to +60°C discharge) or liquid cooling (high-density 40HC, cell ΔT <5°C, stable to +55°C ambient).

  • Fire Suppression & Safety

FK-5-1-12 (Novec) / aerosol three-level detection (smoke/temperature/VOC), linked BMS-PCS emergency shutdown. Compliance: IEC 62619, UL 1973, UL 9540A, UN38.3, NFPA 855, IEC 62933.

Product Configurations

BESS Containers

  • 20HC: 1.0–3.65 MWh | 0.5–1 MW | Air or liquid cooling
  • 40HC: 3.0–6.88 MWh | 1–2.25 MW | Liquid cooling (standard)
  • Multi-Container: 3–100+ MWh | Modular parallel, N+1 redundancy

*Container size is ultimately determined by the quantity and dimensions of integrated system equipment.

BESS Cabinets

  • 30–261 kWh | Air or liquid cooling

Operation Modes

  • Backup Power — Automatic transfer to off-grid mode during grid outage or PV insufficiency, seamlessly taking over critical loads. Switch time <20ms.
  • Peak Shaving — Discharge during peak price periods, charge during off-peak. EMS auto-optimizes based on load profile and tariff structure.
  • Black-Start — BESS builds voltage independently from total blackout, progressively restoring microgrid operation.
  • Frequency Regulation & Power Quality — Responds to system frequency fluctuations, provides reactive support and harmonic mitigation.

Integration Paths

With Solar PV:

DC-coupled (bidirectional DC/DC for PV direct charge, fewer conversion stages) or AC-coupled (PCS and PV inverter parallel on AC bus; retrofittable to existing PV arrays).

With T&D:

BESS connects to MV/LV AC bus via PCS, working with transformers and switchgear for power distribution. EMS centrally dispatches power flow between PV, storage, and grid, supporting grid-connected/islanded/hybrid mode switching.

Retrofit Path:

For sites with existing diesel gensets, BESS can be added incrementally—cabinet units for smaller sites or container units for larger sites—progressively replacing genset runtime. During transition, diesel and BESS can run in parallel to ensure continuity.

Applications

  • Oil & gas well pads, drill sites, production facilities — replace diesel gensets for fully clean power
  • Mining camps and processing plants — peak shaving, reduced diesel logistics
  • Remote water-intake pumping stations — reliable off-grid supply, pump-start surge handling
  • Infrastructure and off-grid communities — solar-storage microgrids, 24/7 stable power
  • Industrial plants — demand management, capacity-charge avoidance
